Workshops For Writer Groups

Email lynne@allthatediting.com to request detailed workshop outlines.

Query Your Query Letter

A query letter is your introduction to literary agents and acquisition editors.  It needs to inform and impress while being concise.  Writers send their query letters to Lynne before the class for her to assess its effectiveness and advise how to improve it.

This one-hour workshop is suitable for online or in-person groups.

Self-Edit Your Story

While writing progresses from sentence to paragraph to scene to story, editing moves from story to scene to sentence, focusing on the big picture first. There is no point in sending a book out into the world that is grammatically correct and free of spelling mistakes if the story doesn’t hold the reader’s attention.  Lynne guides you through the revision process to make your manuscript shine.

This one-hour workshop is suitable for online or in-person groups.

Story, Scene, Sentence

Story, Scene, and Sentence is a three-hour workshop that builds on Self-Edit Your Story.

It provides templates for writers to revise their novels from the top down. Attendees will be invited to submit their work to be used as examples and will receive in-class exercises to practice new skills.

Class takeaways include:

· How to analyze a story chapter by chapter

· How to deconstruct a scene

· How to improve dialogue

This three-hour workshop is best for in-person groups but can be tailored for those who meet online.

The Power of Love

Writers new to the romance genre learn:

  • the difference between a love story and a romance
  • the hallmarks of a good romance
  • incorporating a romantic arc
  • building intimacy
  • tension, chemistry & heat
  • choosing the right words

This one-hour workshop is suitable for online or in-person groups.

What's Love Got To Do With It?

Lynne instructs writers outside the romance genre about how introducing romantic elements can add layers of depth, emotion, and complication to mysteries, thrillers, sci-fi, fantasy, and other fiction genres.

This one-hour workshop is suitable for online or in-person groups.
